What is the FSS Program? FSS is a voluntary program that helps HUD-assisted families to increase their earned income and create a independency and reduce welfare assistance and rental subsidies.

When enrolled into AHA’s Family Self-Sufficiency program, participants collaborate with an FSS Coordinator to create an Individual Training Service Plan (ITSP), that identifies specific steps to reach their life goals. The FSS Coordinator provides ongoing support, assisting participants, tracking and updating progress as they work toward their life goals.

As participants reaches suitable employment goals and their household income increases, their rent is adjusted accordingly by the property manager. The increase in rent is matched by an equivalent amount that is deposited into an escrow savings account each month. Upon successfully completing all program goals and graduating, participants can receive the accumulated escrow amount saved as a payout.
